Screening Services

USDatalink offers a comprehensive list of employment background checks and verification services to help companies screen applicants. We offer the flexibility of ordering services individually or establishing a standard screening program through custom report solutions.

Civil Records

USDatalink provides access to all available civil record repositories. We can expediently search all federal, districts, and municipal courts and also review all of the "compiled" civil resources. While not used as regularly as other reports, civil records are helpful when evaluating formerly self-employed candidates and many times government contracts require a civil records check on employees that will service the contract.

Driving Records

While some companies believe driving records should be used only if an applicant will be driving a company car, crimes are not isolated to where we live and work, and USDatalink believes driving records expose important character issues. By searching an applicant's driving record, we learn about suspended licenses, failures to appear in court and arrest warrants.

Employment Credit

USDatalink recommends an Employment Credit History report for employees that can affect the company financially. This may include all employees in accounting functions, but may also include other employees that may, for example, be entrusted with a corporate credit or purchasing card. The report includes verification of the applicants' name, their current address and two previous addresses, current phone number, current employer, up to three previous employers, and any aliases associated with the Social Security Number. The credit summary portion of the report contains the complete file including verified public records (i.e., liens, judgments, etc.), collection accounts, current or previous delinquent accounts, types of credit, total indebtedness, and summary for each trade line.

Education Verification

Education verification is recommended for managerial positions as well as most business office functions. Statistics reveal that education is one of the things that applicants falsify most often on employment applications. USDatalink generally verifies college degrees, but can also verify high school graduation and trade/vocational school certificates. Education Verification will confirm attendance and degree earned. Some educational institutions will report GPA.

Government Watch Lists

USDatalink offers this to employer's free of charge. This search checks all of the major databases that contain names of foreign nationals (individuals and entities) that the U.S. government currently has sanctions against; whose property may be blocked; who is restricted from exporting by the U.S. Department of Commerce; and whom no U.S. person may have dealings with. Individuals on the list include known terrorists and international narcotics traffickers.

We have grouped the most popular searches into several standard packages that not only save you time trying to decide between services and searches but also save you money. These packages are discounted to give you an extra value when compared to the individual costs associated with each search ordered separately. Also note that these service packages can be custom generated based on your preferences. We offer standard packages for your convenience but you may also want to select your very own set of services that we can save for future use as your company custom packages.

Employment Verification

Past Employment Verification is recommended for all employees. It is approximated that 40% of all resumes and employment applications contain falsified information. USDatalinks' in-house Reference and Verification Department offers reports verifying the employer's name, applicant's title, dates of employment, salary history, whether they are eligible for rehire, and additional comments. We also offer, at no additional charge, to inquire about the applicant's initiative, follow-through, growth potential, organization skills, adaptability, work ethic, or any other information our client wishes us to ask.

Onsite Criminal Records

County criminal searches are recommended to protect against workplace violence and employee theft. USDatalink performs searches of current records directly from local county Superior and Municipal courts. Criminal searches are available nationwide as well as in the U.S. territories and Canada. We recommend a search of all counties of residence and any aliases that are identified in an applicant's Social Security Trace. Using USDatalinks' network of researchers, we access the most current information available and report felony and misdemeanor convictions based on applicable federal and state law.

USDatalink does not use online or CD-ROM databases, which may be out of date and inaccurate. The FTC in a staff opinion letter stated that "an employment screening service that uses 'stored data' (which may be as much as 90 days old) does not comply with" the Fair Credit Reporting Act Section 613(2). State Repositories are available in some states, but many provide partial or out-of-date information because they are not frequently updated. Except where the repository is updated daily, state repository searches should not replace county criminal searches.

National Criminal Database Search

The National Criminal Database Search is a comprehensive database search that provides same day access to the largest criminal database available with millions of offense records. It is a valuable information resource that may discover convictions in counties not identified in a Social Security Trace or Employment Credit Report if the subject never lived in the county. Records from states are indexed from state correctional institutions, the Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC) and some state and county court records.

Professional Credential Verification

USDatalink's Reference and Verification Department conducts professional license and certification verifications. Our reports reveal the validity of applicants' professional licenses, date of issue, renewal and expiration dates, current status and any disciplinary action.

Social Security Verification and Fraud Detect

The Social Security Trace and Fraud Detect checks the validity of an applicant's Social Security Number. If the number is valid, the trace will identify the year and state in which the number was issued. The Social Security Trace will alert you if the number has not been issued, if it was used in a previously filed death claim, or if it was used with any fraudulent activity. The trace also identifies AKA's that have been used and provides up to three (3) past addresses, which help in determining which counties we should search the applicant's criminal record.
